 Chapter 6: The Church Year

Opening prayer: Our Father

We Believe:

  • The church praises Jesus all year long

    • What does the word Praise mean to you?

    • Praise: to show God our love

  • All year long we gather at church to praise, thank God, and to celebrate all that Jesus has done for us.

  • Every year we have special times where we join together to praise and thank God. Let’s take a look at the special times in which we praise and thank God:

    • Advent: is a time of waiting. We wait and get ready for the coming of the Son of God (Christmas).

      • Color used in church: Purple. The color purple symbolizes preparation and repentance

      • This year Advent begins on Sunday November 27, 2022 and ends on Saturday December 24, 2022.

    • Christmas: is a time to celebrate the birth of the Son of God. We celebrate God’s greatest gift to us, his Son, Jesus.

      • Color used in church: White and/or Gold

      • This year Christmas will be on Sunday, December 25, 2022.

    • Lent: is a time to remember all that Jesus has done for us. We get ready for the Church’s great celebration .

      • Color used in church: Purple

      • This year Lent begins on Wednesday, March 2, 2022 and ends the first week of April. First day of Lent always begins on Ash Wednesday.

    • The Three Days: are the Church’s greatest celebration. We remember and celebrate that Jesus died for us and rose to new life.

      • Color used in church: White and red

      • The Three Days begins three days before Easter Sunday

    • Easter: is a time of great joy. We rejoice and celebrate that Jesus rose to new life.

      • Color used in church: White and gold.

      • This year Easter will be on Sunday, April 17, 2022

    • Ordinary Time: is when we celebrate everything about Jesus, especially his life and teachings.

  • The church year helps us to follow Jesus.

  • These different times in the church help us to remember and celebrate all that Jesus did for us.
