February 12, 2022: Chapter 16

Chapter 16: We Celebrate the Sacraments

Opening Prayer: Hail Mary

  • Vocabulary:

  • Sacrament: a special sign given to us by Jesus

  • Chapter Story: Why is Adam looking forward to going to his cousin’s wedding?

  • What special times does your family celebrate?

  1. We Believe

  • Jesus celebrated God’s love

    • Jesus celebrated special times with his family and friends. They celebrated Jewish feasts.

    • He also gathered with others to worship and celebrate God’s love.

    • They prayed songs of praise to God to thank him for his love and care.

  • We Celebrate God’s love

    • We gather with our parish family to celebrate God’s love and to worship together.

    • When we worship we thank God for sending his son to us

    • We remember the things Jesus said and did

    • We ask the Holy Spirit to help and guide us

    • When we worship God together, we do different things like:

      • Ask God to be with us

      • Pray using words, songs, and action

      • Listen to God’s Word

    • What are some way you can pray and thank God?

  • Jesus gave us the sacraments

    • Jesus wants each of us to share in God’s love

    • He gave us seven special signs (called sacraments)

    • We gather with our parish family to celebrate the sacraments. Jesus is with us each time we celebrate

    • We receive the sacraments at different times in our lives

    • But Jesus shares God’s life with us in each of the sacraments

    • Each sacrament helps us to grow closer to God

    • The seven sacraments are:

      • Baptism

      • Penance and Reconciliation

      • Eucharist

      • Confirmation

      • Holy Orders

      • Matrimony

      • Anointing of the sick

    • We use the gifts of God’s creation during the celebration of the sacraments. For example, water and oils are used to bless us. Light from candles reminds us that Jesus is with us. Bread made from wheat and wine made from grapes are used, too.
