The Church began on Pentecost.
On Pentecost, Jesus’s followers were excited because the Holy Spirit had come to them.
They wanted to tell people what had happened!
Read Along: On that day, about three thousand people received the Gift of the Holy Spirit.
This day marks the beginning of what we call the Church.
The Church is all the people who believe in Jesus and follow his teachings.
The first members of the Church did many things together.
The very first members of the Church were like a close family!
They did many things together, like:
Talk about Jesus’s teachings.
Learned about ways to follow Jesus.
Shared the things they had.
Praise God.
The Holy Spirit helped the Church to Grow.
The first members of the Church were filled with the Holy Spirit and were able to:
Believe in Jesus.
Told everyone what Jesus had done for them
Shared God’s love with others
Helped those who were poor or sick.
Tried to be kind and fair to everyone.
Inspired by the first members of the Church, every day more and more people became members of the Church.
The Holy Spirit Helps the Church today.
The Holy Spirit helps us to live as Jesus taught us.
With the help of the Holy Spirit we:

Share with others
Care for those who are poor or the sick.
Show respect for all people.
